A Little About Your Hosts...

And a Little About The Area...

Pat and Geoff Thomas have been running the popular Tuscan Sun holidays for nearly fifteen years and lots of their guests have been looking for a similar experience elsewhere in Europe, many saying they would like to visit France.  That’s where we come in!

We are Pat and Richard Kneen.

We hail from the Isle of Man and have been visiting France for thirty years.  After a lot of searching we chose the Dordogne Valley as the place where we wanted to be.  We too were looking for new experiences and began taking holiday guests about five years ago.  We were thrilled when Pat and Geoff asked if we should like to do hosted holidays with them because it gives us the opportunity to share all the things we love about the region.

The Dordogne epitomises all that is best in the French way of life, food, wine, weather, and the soft rolling countryside and the medieval town of Bergerac, with its origins in the Roman period, just about sums it up.

The Dordogne epitomises all that is best in the French way of life, food, wine, weather, and the soft rolling countryside and the medieval town of Bergerac, with its origins in the Roman period, just about sums it up.

We have had a home near Bergerac for twelve years and during that time have acquired an extensive knowledge of the surrounding area.

Come and stay as our guests in our traditionally built home a few kilometres from the town and let us introduce you to this delightful and historic part of France.

Perigueux Cathedral

See 20,000 years history of man.  Visit Lascaux 11 caves for some of the most comprehensive cave paintings ever discovered.

Visit St Emilion, founded in Roman times for the production of wine and still producing fine wines 2,000 years later.

The region is noted for its bastides, 13th century planned towns.  There are some excellent examples, perhaps the most notable being Monpazier.

Whether it’s castles or stately homes you want, we have them.  Visit Beynac, a wonderful 11th century castle set above the river Vezere or Chateau Biron, so authentic that it has been the setting for many a film.  Alternatively visit the gentile Chateau de Losse.  Or just enjoy the journeys through some of France’s most beautiful and verdant countryside.

Bergerac's Old Quarter

Bergerac, our home town, also dates from Roman times, and came to be the centre of a large wine growing area.

Enjoy a cruise on the Dordogne River on a gabarre, a locally built boat. The silent progress of these boats is perfect for bird watching!

The ancient centre of Bergerac is well worth a couple of hour's  wander, and on Wednesdays and Saturdays an extensive market takes over a large swathe of town around the cathedral.

There are many other activities available in the area, and we can help you enjoy canoeing and kayaking, golf, riding, walking and cycling.

And if sustenance is required after these days of activity, on the days you'll be eating out, we can assist with restaurant bookings so you can savour the gastronomic delights of the area.
